The Clerk of Wayne County has died. Jim Booton served the people of Wayne County for more than 20 years. He was elected County Commissioner back in 1988 and appointed Clerk in November of 2008. Booton won election for Clerk in 2010. He died following a battle with cancer.
Secretary of State Natalie Tennant released the following statement on his passing: "Jim was a wonderful public servant who truly had the interests of the people of Wayne County first in mind. He was constantly in contact with the Elections Division of the Secretary of State's Office, and was always easy to work with. My thoughts, as well as those of the Elections Division, are with Jim's family in this difficult time."
Funeral arraignments have not been announced just yet.
