A mother is under arrest after her baby was found in a stroller, alone on the sidewalk. A neighbor flagged down police after seeing the 7-month-old baby on the sidewalk in front of a house on Jackson Street on Charleston's East End. The baby nor the mother live at the home.
Police say neighbors were trying to care for the crying baby but contacted police after the mom, Brittany Davis, was gone for about an hour.
Davis says she went to the store to get a pack of cigarettes and was only gone for about five to seven minutes.
But police say they were on scene for 20 minutes before Davis ever showed up.
Davis claims she asked an acquaintance, a woman she knows as Ruby, to watch her little boy while she went to get her cigarettes.
"She left and left my baby on the side of the sidewalk," Davis said.
Police say they couldn't find anyone by the name of Ruby in the area.
Davis is charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury. CPS is in the process of placing the baby with a family member.
