Thursday, April 5th, marks two years since the deadly explosion at Upper Big Branch Mine that killed 29 miners.
A moment of silence will be held state wide at 3:01pm. A wreath will also be placed at the West Virginia Coal Miner Statue at the State Capitol.
Drawings of the UBB Miners Monument will be on display starting at 5pm, in Whitesville at the Salmay building.
A memorial walk is also scheduled to start at 6:30pm at Whitesville Junior High School. The march will winds its way through the town and past the memorial.
Meanwhile, the family of one of the men killed in that explosion is suing former Massey Energy Chief Don Blankenship and others they feel are responsible.
A Pittsburgh attorney filed the complaint on behalf of fallen miner, Dean Jones. It alleges deliberate infliction of emotional distress.
The case does not target the company or its new owner, Alpha Natural Resources; but it does go after former chief operations officer Chris Adkins and former vice president for safety Elizabeth Chamberlin, in addition to Blankenship.
Alpha Natural Resources will soon begin to permanently seal the Upper Big Branch Mine. Workers will use concrete to seal large tunnels that miners use to enter the mine. They hope to have the job finished by summer.
