Destruction and despair still blanket the town of Verdunville in Logan County four days after flood waters rushed into the small town, destroying hundreds of homes and leaving the area in a state of emergency.
For the people who are now left with nothing, they only have a few places to turn. The National Guard is cleaning up debris and at the Verdunville Church of God volunteers are cooking food and handing out water and cleaning supplies.
People in the community say they're leaning on one another to make it through.
"The only thing I know to tell you is that it was by the grace of God that my house is still standing," said Goldie Dear of Verdunville. Dear says she didn't think she would make it out of the flood alive. Water destroyed her home leaving very little behind. But now she's getting supplies trying to get her life back on track.
"Hopefully I can get some help. If not, you know God is going to lead me , he's going to guide me, he's going to help me," she said.
There's still so much damage to fix in the town of Verdunville, more than you can imagine. "People are helping people, flood victims are helping flood victims, four wheelers, wheel barrels. It's an effort, it's a team," said Michael Hartwell from Verdunville Church of God.
For the people who lost everything, they say they're heartbroken. But caring neighbors are providing help and hope for a brighter day ahead.
"God bless the soldiers who are doing what they're doing, the people who are help working and the neighbors who are working together. I just want to say God bless you all," said Dear.
Verdunville Church of God still needs buckets, mops, brooms, and antibacterial soap. They also need more space to cook and hand off food.
