Police arrested Crystal Jordan on charges of child neglect causing death after they say her baby boy drowned in the bathtub. A horrible loss that police say could have been avoided.
"She apparently fell asleep, and was in such a deep sleep that she didn't hear a commotion," said Lt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.
Police say Crystal's husband came home Thursday afternoon to find their son, 16-month old Kolten Zander lying face down in the bathtub with the water still running. He gave Kolten CPR until paramedics showed up.
"We were taking our nap and he got out of the crib for the first time ever," said Crystal Jordan while under arrest and being walked to court.
Crystal says her toddler already knew how to turn on the water in the bathtub, but she says she didn't know he was awake. "I love my baby more than anything in this world and I would never, ever, ever hurt him," she said.
Police say Crystal admitted to using meth earlier Thursday morning.
It's a harsh reality for a mother who will never see her baby again. Now she's headed to jail while a family is torn apart. "I want my babies! I want my babies," said Crystal.
Crystal is being held on a $50,000 dollar bond. Kolten's body has been sent to the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
