WV State Police are warning residents that a new scam going around is using their agency's name in the scam.
It's called a "Nigerian Scam."
Here's how it goes down.
The suspects call or email and claim to be members of the West Virginia State Police.
Then they ask the victim to wire money to a destination, usually outside the United States.
The scammers even have a fraudulent email account that they have set up and it actually looks like an official email.
Troopers want to remind the public, that they never contact people and request money to be wired.
