Spring fire season begins Thursday, March 1st. Outdoor burning during this period is prohibited between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
State law also limits outdoor burning to leaves, brush, yard clippings and other vegetative materials.
West Virginia forest fire laws require that all outdoor fires have a safety strip around them of at least 10 feet. Fires must also be extinguished before they're left unattended.
Anyone caught violating the rules can be charged with a misdemeanor, fined up to $1,000 dollars among other costs. The season continues through May 31st.
