A day filled with devastation for those who live and work in the little town of West Liberty in Morgan County, Kentucky. "I knowed it was gonna be bad but not this bad," explains Bill Phipps after he says he was trapped in a building as the storm ripped through. An entire business plaza was leveled in only minutes. Cars were moved around like toys. Entire glass storefronts were left lying in pieces, and people were thankful to be alive. They stood outside, in shock, recounting the minutes when they weren't sure if they would make it through. "She texted me and said, 'mom, I love you,' and of course that was going through my mind when I was going back through there," recalls Angie Stacy. Not much is left of the plaza along Highway 460. A once bustling business area that now looks more like the scene of a movie. "I saw a tornado come around that curb right there and it took the roof off of my building, me and my wife was in it!" says Phipps. Stacy also says she can only describe what she saw as a tornado. "About that time, it just kinda whorled around to the other side of the road and it was going around, and the roof started blowing off and he said 'we gotta get in!' and both of us grabbed ahold of the door to get in 'cause we couldn't even pull the door open, and then when we took off running, all the glass came in like behind us," she says. Before 2:30 on Wednesday, the area was home to a flea market, insurance company, beauty shop, and carpet outlet. A gas station across the street was set to re-open in the next few days. Now, they're left to only pick up the pieces. "I don't know what to think about it, it's actually a miracle for us to make it out," says Stacy. There is no official word if the damage in West Liberty was caused by an actual tornado. The National Weather Service will come in an determine that later this week. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
