A former Kanawha County Commissioner has died. According to release from the Kanawha County Commission, Doug Stump passed away Tuesday night. Commissioner Stump served from 1983-1988 and as President of the Commission in 1984, 1985, and 1988. He was also former DMV Commissioner for the State of West Virginia. Stump died at Charleston Area Medical Center Tuesday evening. Family members tell the Charleston Daily Mail that he had open heart surgery just last week. "Commissioner Stump was a true friend and dedicated public servant who touched the lives of many. It was a true honor to work with Commissioner Stump,” said Commissioner Henry C. Shores. Commission President Kent Carper has ordered all State Flags to be lowered on all Kanawha County property and agencies. “Commissioner Stump was an outstanding County Commissioner who I respected greatly. He was a friend and mentor. His family is in my thoughts during this time," said Commission President Kent Carper. “I had the pleasure of knowing Commissioner Stump and working with him on many projects with the Kanawha County Commission. He served this community well through his service on the Building Commission and Elk Valley Public Service District.
