The State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in Chesapeake, Ohio Tuesday evening.
It happened just before 5:30 in the 900 block of County Road 3 in Lawrence County.
An off duty EMS employee who was in the area spotted a one story house on fire. We're told she and a neighbor helped pull a man who was trapped inside to safety. He remains in Cabell Huntington Hospital with serious burns.
Fire crews arrived a short time later and were able to get that fire under control, but the house is a total loss. Investigators believe the fire originated in the kitchen area. It's not known whether or not the home had working smoke detectors at this time.
