Being abused by someone you love and trust. it's a sad reality for a lot of people.
This week law enforcement and non-profit agencies were recognized for taking steps that make it tougher for abusers to slide by.
Officials say the problem is on the rise 33 percent of the homicides in West Virgnia are domestic violence related.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin recognized local agencies that are taking steps that send a message enough, is enough.
"They're the people who are doing the real work, they're the people who are making the direct difference in people's lives everyday," Goodwin said.
