A small apartment complex on B Street in St. Albans became the scene of two robberies within the last week. A woman and a 17-year old man were both victims, allegedly at the hands of Shawn Gilmore.
Gilmore of South Charleston was picked up by police Friday afternoon. Reports say he hit a woman in her head with his fists, stole her purse, and emptied out her prescription pills.
Just a few nights later, police say Gilmore was back at it. They say he attacked a teen with a hammer and got away with three hundred dollars.
But Gilmore says he's innocent. He says it's silly to think he would steal from someone he knows quite well. "How am I going to rob someone I live with? She's my girlfriend," said Gilmore.
The crimes are upsetting to neighbors, who certainly don't want this happening at their doorstep.
"I'm the kind of person that I like to lock my doors all the time. Keep my doors locked every day," said neighbor, Edward Booker.
For now, an apartment complex hopes they can rest easy. And hopes the man responsible for the robberies goes to jail.
But Gilmore says police have the wrong guy, and he's sticking to it. "Nothing happened. I didn't rob no one. I know that," said Gilmore.
Gilmore was just recently released from a prison in Ohio. He'll be back in West Virginia court on February 13th for a preliminary hearing.
