A Winifrede man has been charged with first degree murder after a shooting in eastern Kanawha County.
Kanawha County Sheriff's Detectives say John Edward Hudson, 38, shot Michelle Gillispie at her home on Shorty Road in Winifrede Monday night.
Deputies got a call about a possible homicide at the home around 6:00 p.m. They found Gillespie dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head behind her left ear.
They say Hudson provided them with a statement, and told them he shot Gillispie with a pistol, and then fled the home without calling for help.
Detectives were able to make contact with Hudson and short time later and met up with him at a location in Charleston where he agreed to turn himself in.
Detectives say the suspect and the victim had been living together for a few days, but say they were not in a relationship.
On his way to magistrate court, Hudson repeatedly told Eyewitness News it was an accident, but wouldn't say why.
