This is Eyewitness News reporter Atish Baidya doing something he's done hundreds of times before...report live from on location.
But this time, his photographer Brad Rice is using our new LiveU technology. Sending the signal to the station just like you'd make a call with a cell phone.
Traditionally, live broadcasts have used microwaves which require a clear line of sight. However, if a building or a mountain was between the live location and the station, forget it.
The LiveU technology isn't blocked by barriers. If there's a cell phone signal, it works.
It also allows us to have expanded live coverage of events like the the West Virginia International Auto Show.
Before this backpack...a live shot from a moving vehicle was impossible. With LiveU...that's no longer the case.
You'll be seeing the LiveU backpack unit all across the region. We'll be covering events as they happen...and show you breaking news from wherever it is taking place. That's the advantage of the LiveU technology.
