A Putnam County man has been charged with first degree robbery after he was shot trying to rob a pizza delivery driver. It happened shortly after 8:30pm Friday at the Sable Point Apartments in Hurricane. Police say the pizza delivery driver told them he was delivering a pizza to a woman who lived at the complex. When he got there, the woman told him that she didn't order a pizza. When the driver was going back to his car, 20-year-old DeSean Saunders allegedly went up to him and told him the pizza was for his mother. The driver followed Saunders back to the stairwell, and that's when he said Saunders acted like he had a gun in his pocket and told the driver to leave the pizza and soda and give him money. The driver said he dropped the food and went to empty his pockets. Instead of pulling out money, he pulled out a .38 caliber Derringer and shot Saunders. Police later found Saunders hiding in the closet of one of the apartments. He was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Saunders says he didn't rob the driver and told police he was shot while watching a fight that broke out at the complex. The pizza delivery driver will not be charged. --------------------------------------------- A man who tried to allegedly rob a pizza delivery driver in Hurricane got more than he bargained for after the driver tried to shoot him. It happened shortly after 8:30pm Friday near the Sable Point Apartment Complex. Details are still sketchy, but we're told the driver told police that somebody tried to rob him. That's when he pulled out a gun and began firing. No word on how many shots were fired, or if the suspect was hit. The suspect was able to run away from the scene. We have a crew on the scene.
