A Charleston man is desperate to figure out what led to his sister's brutal murder allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.
"People get a moment of rage and then they catch themselves, that's human nature. But he went above and beyond. He snapped to the ultimate," said Teddy Rhim.
The ultimate point led to Carol Rhim's death. The accused, Nathaniel Lawton committed suicide while Kanawha County deputies narrowed in on his apartment.
Carol's brother, Teddy Rhim says his sister and Lawton were at his home last week. He says his sister and Lawton had a good relationship, but Lawton struggled with one thing. "He just was extremely jealous, obsessed with her."
Teddy says jealously led to frequent calls from Carol. He says Carol would have even have to spent nights at his home. He also says Carol called him on Tuesday. He's afraid that call was her last.
"She probably was calling out for help. My family is use to me being there to help them no matter what it is. And it dreads me to think that last call I got from her was for help," said Rhim.
Police say Lawton bought tools at a hardware shop in Dunbar. Deputies think he used those tools to cut Carol's body. A thought that Teddy can't shake. "What type of person against someone they love goes out and shops for tarp, saw, and have the conscience to get an extra blade? I just felt I should have been there more."
Family says it will take several weeks until Rhim's autopsy results are released.
