Kanawha County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating after an apparent murder suspect committed suicide while trying to execute a search warrant. It happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Barron Drive. The apartment is located just next to the West Virginia State University Campus. Chief Deputy John Rutherford says the department got a call about a possible murder that had taken place in Institute earlier in the day. Then they got a tip on a possible suspect. They got a search warrant and went to the suspect's apartment on Barron Drive. Deputies say they knocked on the door several times, and nobody answered. That's when they say then heard a muffled gunshot from inside. When they went inside they found the body of the suspect with a gunshot wound to the head The man's name has not been released. Deputies are also not releasing any information about the possible homicide he was a suspect in. Detectives are expected to be on scene late into the night. Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants was also on scene.
