The man who made threats to jump from the New River Gorge Bridge Thursday morning is safe. Dispatchers say officers were able to convince the man not to jump and to turn himself over around 10:40am. We're told traffic is still a mess in that area and is expected to be for the next hour or so. You are encouraged to find an alternate route.
The New River Gorge Bridge near Fayetteville, West Virginia is shut down at this time. Fayetteville deputies tell us a person has been on the bridge since about 4 Thursday morning -- making threats to jump off the 876 foot tall span.
Both northbound and southbound lanes have been closed since 6am. We're told officers are on the scene and redirecting traffic at this time. You are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
