Police in Fayette County say an elderly man was tied up with a chain and robbed inside his own home.
It happened in Meadow Bridge in Fayette County Monday night. Sheriff's deputies say a heavy-set white man, about 6-feet tall, kicked open the man's front door, put a chain around the 81-year-old's neck, and forced him into the floor, demanding $15,000. The robber got away with about $1,000 cash, according to police.
The elderly man waited about 45 minutes to call for help because he says the intruder threatened to come back and kill him if he called police.
Police believe the elderly man may have been wrongly targeted because of the initial demand for $15,000.
This is the second home invasion in the county in about two weeks, the other one happened in Oak Hill, but police don't believe they're connected. Anyone with information should call police at 304-574-4216 or Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867.
