A Charleston man is in the burn unit of Cabell Huntington Hospital after a fire destroyed his apartment in Kanawha City early Friday morning.
Firefighters said the man suffered burns to his face. Friends identified the man burned as David S. Paleg, an employee of a Cross Lanes area hotel. He is listed in serious condition. It appears the victim may have been trying to put out the fire himself.
Dispatchers got the call about the fire on the 4000 block of Venable Avenue around 2 a.m. Crews arrived to find one side of the apartment building engulfed in flames. The fire melted power lines near the building and knocked out electricity to the surrounding area.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
