A teacher accused of inappropriately touching one of his former students has been arrested again. In August, Maurice White, 61, of Charleston was charged with sexual abuse by a guardian and possession of child pornography. Now, while sitting on home confinement, White is accused of trying to get in contact with that same victim, which is a violation of his bond. Kanawha County home confinement deputies and West Virginia State Police arrested White at his home on Thursday. Prosecutors say a friend of the victim told her principal that White was trying to get in contact with her (the victim) again. White allegedly was sending the friend text messages trying to arrange a meeting between him and the victim. White was initially arrested after the 14-year-old victim's parents went to police and said White was having an inappropriate relationship with their daughter. Police say White was also in possession of child porn. That case is still under investigation. Prosecutors say if it weren't for the victim's friend coming forward, White may have never been re-arrested. "That's why it's important to encourage children to go to their teachers, to go to their parents, when they see something that's out of the way. Even if it doesn't involve them. Something as serious as this, it was good that she reported it," explains Kanawha County assistant prosecutor Dan Holstein. "We rely on the community to to be sort of another watchdog and if they are to see something not right, or if they even suspect something is going on, it's extremely important that they contact law enforcement so that we can investigate it and see what's going on," says Kanawha County assistant prosecutor Erica Lord. Police say White was the victim's 5th grade teacher when he worked at Gauley Bridge Elementary in Fayette County. He was also working as a substitute teacher at Valley High School before his first arrest. He is in the South Central Regional Jail. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
