Jim Smith is an expert in taking something sour and turning it into something sweet.
He's been running the Good Stuff Good Times catering and concession company for about three years. On Sunday he's manning his lemonade stand during the West Virginia Games at Magic Island. As the owner of a growing small business he has a few ideas of how to turn this sour economy around. "The economy should be business friendly," he said. "Everyone should be encouraged to be ambitious and prosper but it just doesn't seem that way." New job numbers seem to echo Jim's feelings. Unemployment rose to 9.6%. Nearly 15 million people are unemployed. With Labor Day on Monday, President Obama plans on refocusing on the economy after a week of bad economic news. The President plans on talking about tax cuts for payroll and research and development. He is also trying to get a small business bill passed. It would give $12 billion in tax breaks and create a $30 billion fund to unfreeze lending. For Jim, all those efforts by the administration to jump start a stalling economy still isn't leaving him feeling confident. "I don't know it seems like it is on really shaky ground," he said. And that is perhaps the President's biggest challenge as he tries to make his own version of lemonade.
