There is a new bacterial outbreak in schools that doctors say you need to be aware of. Shigella is a lot like the stomach flu but more extreme, and already there are four confirmed cases of it in Kanawha county.
Doctors tell us the majority of people who get Shigella do not even know they have it.
You have to make sure you wash your hands any time you go to the bathroom or change a diaper.
Symptoms to look for include diarrhea along with cramping, abdominal pain, chills, headache, and fever. The diarrhea may contain blood and mucus, and can cause dehydration and weakness.
More cases are expected to be reported in the valley.
