A brief, intense shower around 3 this afternoon was too much for some storm drains around Charleston to handle. Water quickly backed up in the streets near the city recreation center at 35th Street and Venable Avenue in Kanawha City. There were also problems along East Washington Street where the short downpour proved too much for storm drains. A small lake formed near the recreation center and was still draining long after the rain stopped. The fast moving storm rolled out of the city before it could cause any major flooding problems.
