A West Virginia coal miner is dead after an accident at Consol Energy's Loveridge Mine in Marion County Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the State Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training says 39-year-old Jessie Adkins of Belington became pinned between coal and other material that fell from the mine's wall and a piece of heavy equipment. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Adkins had been a miner for seven years and worked at Loveridge for three. He was married and had two teenage daughters.
Federal and state mining regulators are investigating.
Adkins' death is the 42nd in U.S. coal mines this year. At least 32 of those deaths were in West Virginia.
