A man in Huntington was shot to death in front of his wife's eyes Tuesday night. Terri Lowry says her husband Mark Lowry gave his life to protect her.
“They shot my husband in the heart,” said Lowry. ” He is gone forever, and they took him away from me.”
Terri says she and Mark were taking her teenage son to visit some friends near 17th Street and 11th Avenue in Huntington.
They took a wrong turn that took them into the parking lot of the Fairfield Apartments, where they were approached by three young men.
“The boy on the passenger side aimed the gun right at me and my son. And if it hadn't jammed, he would have killed us.”
But Mark was not so lucky. Terri says as he jumped to cover her, the young man on the driver's side shot three times.
“He said "I've been shot," and his body went limp,” said Lowry.
The young men ran off and Terri's son jumped into the driver's seat and drove to Cabell Huntington Hospital. But it was too late.
“They killed my husband, and they need to be brought to justice.”
Terri says she does not know why they were targeted. A lot of Mark's friends and family are now angry, but Terri hopes there is no more violence.
“A lot of people want retaliation, and I do not want that and I know that Mark would not want no more blood shed. I know that he would want justice to be done.”
She feels the only way Mark will find peace is if his killers come forward.
“The guys know who they are, I know who they are, and the police know who they are. And the best thing for them to do is to turn themselves in.”
Mark Lowry's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's office to be examined. His funeral arrangements can not be made until after his body is released by the police department.
Terri Lowry is hoping by the time he is laid to rest, his killers will have already come forward.
