An early morning fire tears through a Nitro trailer, and its location posed a lot of problems for firefighters. The fire started about 2:00 this morning on Hog Pen Hollow Road off First Avenue in Nitro.
The two people inside were woken up by the smoke alarm and made it out safely. The remote location of the trailer was the first problem for crews. They couldn't get the trucks all the way up the hill, because of the terrain.
It took firefighters nearly a half hour to actually get to the fire. Nitro firefighter Robert Ely said, "The access road, there's no way way of accessing the house. Basically we had to hand-lay the hose from the bottom of the hill."
It took about a half hour to put out the fully involved fire. It also caught nearly a quarter acre of brush around it on fire. Crews were on scene for a few hours to water down the hillside.
