One of two men convicted of killing a Huntington Pastor will spend the next 160 years behind bars.
Stephen Wilson was sentenced Monday morning in Wayne County. Judge Darrell Pratt gave Wilson 40 years for second degree murder and 120 years for first degree robbery. The sentences will be served consecutively. Under West Virginia code, the maximum sentence for second degree murder is 40 years, with a sentence for first degree robbery being anywhere from 10 year to life. Wilson and Dan Smith were convicted last year of killing Mark McCalla. Witnesses say the two killed McCalla at Beech Fork State Park's shooting range in July 2008 after stealing his guns. The two came to West Virginia after deserting the army. Mccalla's family says the punishment fits the crime. "I think the judge was fair and I don't think I'm ever going to see him on the outside," said Pam McCalla, Mark's widow. The judge said neither Wilson nor Smith have shown any remorse during the trial and says he believes a jury would've sentenced them both to death if the state allowed capital punishment. Last August, Smith was sentenced to 90 years in prison for his role in the murder. He will be eligible for parole after 37 1/2 years.
