The search expanded today for a missing Kanawha County firefighter whose rescue boat flipped in a flooded creek near Beckley. Firefighter Donald Adkins was among a group sent from Kanawha County to assist with water rescues. a boat carrying three firefighters flipped, and the 32-year-old man never surfaced. Today searchers used chain saws and axes to cut through huge piles of debris deposited by flood waters Friday and Saturday. The Glasgow firefighter had been part of a crew that had rescued eleven people before the boat overturned. He was praised by Chief Marty Blankenship: "He was just a good, all around type person.. He'd be one of the first one's here (the fire station) and always wanted to be there to help somebody. "
The search was expanded to Piney Creek today. Beaver Creek, where the rescue boat overturned, dumps into Piney Creek which flows into the New River. Firefighters say they'll search until his body is found.
