Severe flash flooding hit parts of Fayette County Saturday.
Heavy rainfall combined with melting snow overwhelmed streams and creeks in Pax and surrounding areas. Answering the call of nature helped save William Sasser, his wife Peggy, who is also the mayor of Pax, and mother-in-law from Mother Nature's wrath. "I almost laid back but something told me to look out the back window," William Sasser said. "When I did, I didn't see the little creek. We were surrounded by water." They managed to pack up a few things into their cars and were driving to safety when water flooded the vehicles engines. "We had to get out and trudge through the water up to our chest," Peggy Sasser said. "Her feet [her mother's] feet flies out from underneath her. His feet flies out from underneath him. I thought I lost them both because they both went under." Luckily, her husband and mother regained their footing and a neighbor helped guide them to safety. Peggy is trying to maintain a good sense of humor about the terrifying ordeal because for now that is all she and her family have got left.
