HIGH WATERfrom Eyewitness News Online Snow Melt, Heavy Rain Cause Major Flooding

Many areas in West Virginia are under water Saturday morning, with parts of the eastern mountains getting hit the hardest. In Fayette and Raleigh counties many have been evacuated.
Heavy rain, combined with melting snow to send several creeks and streams over their banks as they backed up dumping into larger rivers. Many areas have picked up between 1-2" with locally higher amounts. Charleston's Yeager Airport reported 1.02" of rain between 9pm Friday and 6am Saturday. Beckley reported over 3" of rain in the same period. 10am Update: Boone - Route 3 at Rock Creek is under water; Camp Creek Rd in Julian is flooded; rockslide on Route 85 near the hospital is cleared. Cabell - No flooding reported Fayette - Widespread flooding with several areas under water. Dozens of homes in the Pax and Mt. Hope areas have been evacuated. The Pax Fire Department also flooded. Other hard hit areas include: Page, Kincaid, Beards Fork Road, Glen Jean. Jackson - No flooding reported Kanawha - Street flooding reported on Sissonville Dr, Roxalana Road and many others. Lincoln - No flooding reported, all water has receded Logan - No flooding reported, high water has receded Mason - No flooding reported Mingo - No flooding reported Nicholas - Flooding reported near Richwood and water over roads toward Swiss and Nallen Putnam - Route 62 near Eleanor; Hurricane Creek is running high. Raleigh - Many areas are under water, including the Beaver area where several people have been evacuated and water rescues are ongoing. Rescue crews are searching for a woman who went into the water in the Sweenybury area overnight. Another man has been rescued in the same area after he went in. A shelter is open at the Dream Center in Beckley. Webster - Some high water reported in flood prone low lying areas 9am Update: - Eyewitness News reporters Atish Baidya and Darrah Wilcox are in the hardest areas and say emergency crews are on the WV Turnpike just past the Pax tollbooth rescuing people from below from the high water. - We also have reports of high water in Hurricane Creek behind Hurricane high school. - Bluestone River in Pipestem reported record flood stage at 17.18' early this morning. Here are the latest flood reports as of 6:30am. Boone - Camp Creek Rd in Julian is flooded. A major rockslide has part of Route 85 closed just north of Boone Memorial Hospital, one lane is open. Logan - Sporadic reports of high water, nothing major Mason - Water over LongHollow Rd. Mingo - Nothing reported Nicholas - Nothing reported Putnam - Nothing reported Raleigh - Many areas are under water, including the Beaver area where several people have been evacuated and water rescues are ongoing.
