Firefighters spent the morning battling a fully engulfed house fire that started just before 9:00 Friday morning in Putnam County.
The home is on Bentwood Drive in the Woodcliffe Chase Subdivision on Route 34 between Hurricane and Teays Valley. Neighbors called 911 when they saw flames shooting out of the roof. Firefighters say they were not only fighting the flames, but also several other problems this morning. All of the firefighters in Teays Valley are volunteer, and all have other careers. They called out manpower from Putnam and Cabell counties to help. They also had equipment problems. Even neighbors did what they could to help fight the fire at the nearly 4,000 square foot home. "They were very helpful. They were helping us move hoses, Everyone was pitching in. It was a collaborative effort to try to do as much as we could battling all the elements that we had to deal with," said Assistant Chief of the TVVFD Steve Connolly. John Hoffman lives nearby. He's one of dozens of neighbors who came out to find out what happened. He said, "It's a nice community, a nice development, and they're just concerned about the people and their own property." No one was hurt. There's no word yet on how it started.
