Thirteen year old Caleb Whitney's perspective on his family is a whole lot different from a week ago.
"Some kids doubt that like saying their family is not cool at all or something like that," Caleb said. "But they don't know how much they need them until they almost lost it."
Now Caleb and his mom are counting their blessings after he nearly died after spending six hours in below freezing temperatures.
"I'm so lucky to have him," his mother Erica Whitney said. "I have four kids. I almost had three."
Last Thursday was report card night, and like a typical teen, Caleb was trying to avoid telling his parents about a bad grade. So we went for walk in the woods near his church. He ended up slipping and falling in a creek and knocking himself unconscious. When his family couldn't find Caleb, they called 911. An Amber Alert was issued and a helicopter, search dogs, and at least a hundred people searched for Caleb.
"There were so many people that showed their love," Erica said. "I can't tell you how much that touched me."
Caleb was treated for hypothermia and frostbite and doctors are still monitoring his heart rate. He said the ordeal helped him gain a new perspective on love and family.
"You need your family more than you need anything else," he said.
