Getting to a power problem can take a 4-wheeler, 4-wheel drive or even a track digger. It's definitely not downtown where a lot of the 600 poles that snapped fell. That's one reason that 11 days after a snow storm knocked out power to more than 150,000 customers in West Virginia, some were still in the dark Tuesday.
Workers are concentrating their efforts on broken and downed lines and poles scattered throughout remote mountains. Some are even far from dirt roads. The big storm dumped more than a foot of snow , with some areas seeing over 2 feet.
Appalachian Power has now restored power to about 150-thousand customers in West Virginia. It took about 2400 people to to do that. The utility says there's not much they could have done to prevent storm damage. Only about 200 Appalachian Power customers are still without service from the big storm in the Mountain State.
