More than 30 people in eight families are homeless after a fire destroyed a Logan apartment building.
The three-story building collapsed after the fire broke out around 6:00 p.m. on Dingess Street Sunday evening. Firefighters say all 14 people inside the building made it out safely. Two of them were taken to the hospital needing treatment for smoke inhalation. Logan fire chief Scott Beckett said, "The fire may have started in the microwave of a bottom floor unit."
Chief Beckett says the state fire marshal will be on scene Monday to investigate. He says a propane cylinder in one apartment that could have been used as a heating source exploded during the fire, adding to the intensity of the blaze.
The displaced residents are staying at the National Guard Armory in Logan. The American Red Cross is helping them out. An additional 20 people are getting assistance. They've been temporarily displaced due to smoke damage in their building nearby.
