"It happens everywhere, but when it happens to you, you have to take a good look at your safety," Robert Walden said.
Walden thought living in Fountain Cove, a quiet suburb in Putnam County that theft would never be a problem. But now he's thinking differently after someone tried to break-in to his home Saturday in broad daylight. He says it happened around noon. He wasn't home at the time, but luckily his neighbor, Jim Geesaman was. "Then he came back and went to the side, bottom door and gave her one hell of a kick," Geesaman said. Not wanting the thief to get away, 82-year-old Geesaman chased after him. He says after yelling at him, threatening to call the police, the man, who claimed he had to get inside, left. Geesaman got his plate number and it's one that Walden says police are very familiar with because the same man is supposedly wanted in connection with other local robberies involving rifles and has even been caught on surveillance video at a pawnshop collecting on the guns. "Police had his picture, his license number...they knew who he was," Geesaman said. "He broke into other places, so why haven't they caught him?" A million dollar question that right now is unanswered. Walden says he credits two things for the robber not getting inside his home. Strong doors and a strong-willed neighbor. "Bob's been a good neighbor," Geesaman said. "That's what neighbors are for, to help each other." Eyewitness News has tried contacting West Virginia State Police trying to get a copy of the surveillance video from the pawnshop.
