Selling this weather as a winter wonderland is tough if you are a motorist who just crashed. But for visitors from Florida and Columbia who had never seen snow Friday's mountain snows looked good. Richard Williams said: "They come from Columbia. it's the first time they've seen snow. Since she's been in the United States the only thing she's seen is Florida. This is the first."

Some buck hunters caught in the wind driven snow were not complaining. Paul Williams, a hunter, said: "I think it's going to help me. We tracked a couple of deer this morning and I'd be glad to if it kept on snowing all day."

Emergency workers and drivers who slid off the road in Nicholas County were less enthusiastic even with the snow at it's most scenic locations. It was pretty for a while, but the snow kept coming and it didn't take long to go from scenic to dangerously slick.

Other areas like Braxton County saw brief strong snow squalls, but warmer ground and air temperatures above freezing as it fell reduced the impact. Below freezing temperatures at higher elevations let a few inches of snow turn roads very slick.
