Candie Weekley says the Faith Mission in Hurricane is one place she can depend on during uncertain economic times.
"They've helped us out a lot with clothes, food a couples times, they've really been supportive." says Weekley.
Weekley and her husband are both unemployed with four children. So, they turned to Faith Mission when they were struggling to make ends meet.
"There's not very many people willing to do what they do." says Weekley.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau more than 10 percent of the nearly 56 thousand people in Putnam County live below the poverty line, and that statistic motivates mission director Art Hage to reach out.
"We do this because we care about people and their needs and we want to try and help them especially during the holiday season." says Hage.
Pastor Hage says over the years thousands have come for help at the mission, some for extensive says, others, just passing through. But he says no matter the case they're always willing to help.
"There are people in need everywhere, all around us." says Hage.
Hage says it's the generosity of the community that makes it possible to feed, clothe, and house those who need it most.
"People give us finances or they bring in canned goods. It's whatever people decide to do in the community." says Hage.
"It makes me feel good." says Weekley, "Just a real warm feeling on the inside."
The poverty rate in Kanawha County is at 14 percent and a little more than 19 percent in Cabell.
Although Faith Mission is based in Putnam County they serve people throughout the area. If you need their help you can contact them at (304)-562-1700.
