A major gas leak in Jackson County forced some people to leave their homes, and others to shelter in place.
It all started around 4:30 Monday night. Crews in Ripley worked for hours after that to make sure it was safe for people to return home
The director of Jackson County 911, Walter Smittle, says a 6 inch natural gas high pressure injection line ruptured at the intersection of Walters Run and Route 21, causing a major leak.
Around 20 households evacuated and dozens sheltered in place.
Since 8:30 Monday evening, Route 21 has reopened and those who evacuated have returned home.
