A Scott Depot woman is at odds with her bank over a $50,000 mistake.
City National Bank filed a lawsuit against Teresa Sperandio after they transferred the money into her savings account in june 2008. City National Vice President of Marketing, Craig Stilwell said, " It was supposed to go into another customer's IRA." Stilwell said when the bank tried fix to the error they discovered Sperandio had spent most of the money. Sperandio said, "I thought the deposit was a money transfer from my brother. I asked the bank when it first showed up in my account and again six months later before I used any of it and they said it was my money." Stilwell said the bank only noticed the error when the money's rightful owner brought it to their attention, nine months after it happened.
In an added twist, Eyewitness News also learned Sperandio gave $20,000 of the money to her former employer, Eagle Research Corporation in November of 2008. She was their bookkeeper for more than a decade and said it was a payment on a loan the company gave her to do renovations on her home. Eagle President, James Butch would not confirm this statement. Butch said, " Sperandio left in july of 2009 owing more money."
Sperandio paid back what she had left of the money in question. The bank is suing for the remaining amount, roughly $31,000.
