"We are saving lives," Cabell County EMS Systems Administrator, Joseph Whitt, said. "It feels very gratifying."
Whitt says starting next month response times and overall care will be more efficient for people living in Cabell County thanks to a new electronic record keeping software that will cut down on unnecessary paperwork.
"Once the product is installed, the laptop will actually leave the vehicle and go to the patient," he said.
Once a patient is in the new system their information will be electronically sent to the EMS Performance Improvement Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where it will be stored. If the information would ever need to be pulled on a patient, EMS workers in Cabell County could bring it up within minutes.
"It's going to be a great tool for someone in case of a disaster," Cabell County EMS Director, Gordon Merry, said.
Merry says the new equipment is state-of-the-art with a price tag of $150,000.
"It's going to aid us in getting information to hospitals faster and hopefully we can get to the homes faster," he said.
"We feel by implementing technology, eventually we can save more lives," Whitt said. "Basically us at EMS, we're all about the patient."
Upgrading their equipment, hoping to upgrade quality care.
