It's no big secret that most children hate getting shots. But parents who brought their kids to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus at the Scioto County Welcome Center in Portsmouth, Friday, couldn't be happier.
"He didn't like it, but mommy did," Megan Holsinger said. "I'm so glad we got it."
Holsinger is one of those parents happy to be taking precautions and happy that other parents feel the same way.
"To know a lot more people are getting vaccinated...you hear so much stuff, what to do, what not to do...to see a lot of people makes me feel a lot better," Holsinger said.
"It shows that people care about their well-being and well-being of their families," Christopher Ross said.
And it's proving to be a hot ticket item. In fact, Friday's flu clinic had more than 700 vaccines when the doors opened at 10:00 a.m. Three hours later, they were down by half.
Friday's flu clinic was aimed at a target audience, six months to 24-years-old. However, the Portsmouth City Health Department made some exceptions, allowing people up to age 65 get the vaccine if they have a chronic illness.
Parents who talked with Eyewitness News say they've heard all the concerns about the vaccine and the question of possible side effects. But, it's something they're willing to chance.
"Why take a chance on getting sick," Ross said.
"I just say go for it while it's available," Holsinger said. "Get vaccinated."
