The final bell sounds in honor of four fallen West Virginia firefighters: Charles Kessel, Robert McAtee Sr., Timothy Nichols and Lt. Johnnie Hammons.
Chief Tim Blake of the Craigsville-Beaver-Cottle Volunteer Fire Department lost two of his men, Nichols and Hammons, in February.
"[Its been] nothing but heartache," Blake said.
Each year the fraternity of firefighters comes together for the solemn duty of honoring their fallen brothers. Flowers are placed at the base of the statue honoring their ultimate sacrifice.
"Right now we have 83 names on the statue," West Virginia Fire Commission Secretary Chuck Runyon said. "I hope we don't ahve to add another name as long as we are here."
