The public debate on abortion took center stage in the Mountain State.
Church members from various congregations throughout Kanawha County took part in a "Life Chain." They lined Kanawha Boulevard from Saint Albans to the West Virginia Capitol waiving anti-abortion signs and praying for the unborn child. The group received mixed reactions. Demonstrators said some people responded with a honk in their cars for support and others responded with heckling and thumbs down.
This comes on the heels of two high profile abortion killings. Last month an anti-abortion protester was killed in Michigan and in May a doctor who performed abortions was killed in Kansas. Demonstrator Brittany Slater said, "When the debate turns violent the message from boths sides is lost."
Life Chain is a national movement that is always held on the first Sunday in October.
