Swine Flu Deathfrom Eyewitness News Online Second H1N1 Death Strikes Huntington, State

"Now I worry constantly if he's going to be OK," Tina Tran said. Tran is a new mother. Her son, Cayden, is only two months old, and she says the news of Huntington's second swine flu related death, quite frankly, scares her.
"It makes me very nervous," she said. "I don't like to take him out anywhere." Elizabeth Ayers works with the Cabell-Huntington Health Department and says the latest H1N1 death was a 37-year-old who had underlying medical conditions. A similar story to that of 51-year-old Michael Bloomfield, who died of the H1N1 virus about a month ago. "It doesn't necessarily mean it's only in Huntington or the Huntington area," Ayers said. "It just so happens we have had two cases in the state and they happened here." Director of Nursing Kathleen Napier says in the recent weeks the phones have been ringing off the hook, filled with questions of concern. "People are still a little unsure," Napier said. "It's really much like the regular, seasonal flu." Napier says prevention is key, like hand-washing and staying home if you're feeling ill. Adding to that, Tina and her husband, Tu, have a few more pointers. "Don't bring your baby out, keep them covered up like our son is covered up," Tina said. "Don't touch hands, your nose, your eyes...stuff like that," Tu said. Little reminders to help keep your family healthy. Ayers says the vaccine for the H1N1 virus will become available later this month. If you would like to check-in with the Cabell-Huntington Health Department about the availability of flu shots, both seasonal and H1N1, call 304.526.3397.
