Two public hearings are scheduled today in Charleston for a controversial power line project that will cut a 200 foot wide path from Putnam County Maryland.
The 280 mile PATH or Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline will start at the John Amos power plant. AEP warns the 765 kilovolt line is needed to avoid blackouts and power line failures only 5 or 6 years away. Critics say west virginia will get little benefit from the project and its 130 foot tall towers will leave an ugly mark on the landscape. The first public service commission hearing starts at 12-30 At the Cultural Center on the Capitol grounds. The second is at 6 p-m at the same location.
