Donations at several area charities are down, and now some of their funds are drying up.
At the Salvation Army in Huntington, Captain Bob Mullins says the slumping economy has hurt donations, while increasing the number of people needing assistance.
He says reserve funds from their annual Red Kettle Campaign may dry up this month. "I just sent a letter to get the last of those reserves that hoped to last through October, that's not going to happen. At the end of this month, we are theoretically in trouble."
The Huntington Area Foodbank has also seen supplies drop as more people turn to food pantry's for help. "Food drives make up 20% of total food we give out and we're really down, so we can use anything they're willing to provide," said Brooke Ash.
To make a donation to the Salvation Army you can log onto their website www.salvationarmyusa.org.
Next weeks food drive will take place September 11th at local Wal-Marts, Krogers, and AT&T stores.
