Tom Miller, a volunteer firefighter in Kanawha County, has been on the job for more than 20 years, and says the Kanawha County Commission is making changes and firefighters are the last to know.
"My concern is the breakdown in communications." says Miller.
Miller says the commission has failed to tell departments the change in radio frequencies and not involving fire chiefs in the hiring of a county fire coordinator.
"These communities have placed trust in these chiefs they're repsonsible for day to day service." says Miller.
The fire coordinator would oversee all of the county's fire departments.
Miller says, "There are people that say they've spoken to commission and been offered the job but application doesnt end til Friday (July) 31st and the interviewing hasn't begun."
County Commission President Kent Carper says that's not the case.
"In my mind there is an unofficial short list. But that person needs to be qualified and have significant experience in the volunteer fire department." says Carper.
Malden Fire Chief, Squeak Peterson says he's waiting for Wednesday's meeting.
"I hope we just air the issues out and everyone speaks up and the county speaks up and says this is why we're doing it and we can sit down and agree." says Peterson.
But Miller says the meeting may be too late.
"There's a lot of distrust from what I've seen between the commission and emergency services." says Miller.
