Tri-State Casino and Resort is happy to be a good corporate neighbor and donate $10,000 to the City of Nitro for its "Boomtown" celebrations later this month.
"The city of Nitro has always been a major part of our success," Director of Marketing Amanda Sosebee said.
But what the city isn't getting is more money from its share of gambling revenue.
"It is down some $130,000 from the year previous," Nitro Mayor Rusty Casto said.
However, Mayor Casto said overall the city is financially healthy, thanks to better collection of B&O taxes and municipal fees. It is far cry from the budget problems that plagued the city in 2007.
"We are in good financial condition now," Casto said. "Yes I said that, Nitro is in good financial condition."
Tri-State revenues dropped $65 million in fiscal year 2008 to $50 million in fiscal year 2009. New figures from the West Virginia Lottery show a decline in revenue from all four race tracks in the state.
Nationwide the American Gaming Association said revenues dropped almost 5% in 2008.
