HUNTINGTON OUTDOOR THEATERfrom Eyewitness News Online Coal Company Puts Spotlight On The Arts

Huntington Outdoor Theater is revving up for its 16th season with a production of "All Shook Up." The show features the music of Elvis Presley and tells how the people of a sleepy 1950's town change when a charismatic young "roustabout" rides into their lives.
The theater's budget is about a hundred thousand dollars a season. To help the show go on, Massey Energy has donated five thousand dollars to H.O.T. "Well, at Massey we're always looking for ways to give back to the communities where our members live and work and when we learned of the need here in Huntington for the outdoor theater we knew it was an investment we wanted to make," said Massey's Troy Andes. Massey's donation allowed H.O.T. to buy brand new spotlights and a rehearsal sound system. But the theater's president and artistic director says the money means much more than just new equipment. "It shows that the importance of the arts is still there," said Helen Freeman, Huntington Outdoor Theater's President and Artistic Director. "I mean, we desperately need to support the arts, especially in a recession time." "All Shook Up" premieres July 10th at Huntington's Ritter Park Ampitheater, with shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for three straight weekends. Gates open at 6:30 for picnicking. The pre-show entertainment starts at 7:00, with "All Shook Up" taking the stage at 8:30. Tickets are 16 dollars for adults, 14 dollars for seniors and children. Kids five and under are free. Freeman added, "What a wonderful thing that we have here and I'm so pleased with Massey Energy because they saw that and helped us out in our time of need."
